Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

On the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona (USA), a small but vital part of the Sonoran Desert is preserved as the Saguaro National Park (East-Rincon Mountain District) It's one of 3 national parks in Arizona. Here the Saguaro Cactus, monarchs of the cactus world, reached out to welcome me to this surprisingly lush and diverse desert landscape. It did so throughout the Park on this fine Autumn day.
Along the one-way 8 mile loop, there are pull-offs, to stop for a closer look. As I walk along, I discover many photo opportunities and points of interest. Colorful wildflowers stop me in my tracks.
Despite its small size, probably insignificant wildflowers to most, these colorful blooms caught my attention. These are bright orange-red or apricot, 5-petaled wildflowers, near the tips of weak, wide-ranging, sometimes sprawling stems.
After viewing them up close, I realized they were Desert Globemallow or Apricot Mallow (sphaeralcea ambigua). I had not seen any in my are...

Janet Marie replied:
It was so wonderful to see them blooming in the month of October, as some sources say they bloom May-July. But actually they bloom all year, and this proves it. Thank you dear Mona, for your lovely comment about this. I am so glad you went exploring to find this and that you like it enough to choose it as a favorite. I really appreciate it! 💕Janet

Your portrait of the Desert Mallow is so very beautiful. Looking at nature through your lens just makes the heart smile. Well done, Janet Marie. Warm regards, Maria
Janet Marie replied:
Maria! What a special comment about my artwork. I just love capturing the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. In driving through the 8 mile loop at Saguaro National Park, not expecting to see any wildflowers, these just popped out with their brilliant colors. I didn't realize that the desert globemallow can bloom all year, I thought only in the spring or during Monsoon summer. A smile is contagious, so I am elated to know that my smile is revealed through my artwork, bringing you a smile. Just the feelings I hope to evoke with my photography. Thank you for visiting my gallery and enjoying my artwork. I so appreciate it. 💕Janet

What a wonderful gift to find these in bloom. They are always so beautiful and such a joy to see. Wonderful capture. Featured in American Desert Southwest.
Janet Marie replied:
It is a wonderful gift dearJane! I always appreciate your appreciation for my photography of the natural world around me. I was surprised to see them as the wildflowers were few. I did manage to capture a butterfly show that day. Here it’s November and my desert yard is still gracing me with summer wildflowers. Thank you so much for the HOMEPAGE FEATURE in your Art Group, “AMERICAN DESERT SOUTHWEST!” I am honored to have my artwork recognized in this special way. I really appreciate it. 💕Janet

Usually don’t see these till end of February/ early March, Janet. How cool is this?....fav / like...oops, I thought that they were poppies!
Janet Marie replied:
As I mentioned in my description, I didn’t realize these bloom all year. Some sources said spring/summer, but another source said all year. So to see them in October was a nice treat with their stunning color. Hard to miss them amongst the dry desert of Autumn. Desert Globemallow may be small but pack a punch with their vibrancy. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Always appreciated. 💕💕💕💕
